Prof. Kathrin Castiglione, Dr. Stefanie Brückner and Matthias Tobler, Institute of Bioprocess Engineering, received the FAU Sustainability Award in the “Research” category for their project “GreenThread: maßgeschneiderte Enzyme und Mikroben für biobasiertes Textilrecycling.”

The project aims to break down plastic and textile waste that is difficult to recycle into its basic components using innovative biotechnological processes in order to promote a sustainable circular economy and combat global environmental pollution. The focus is on the enzymatic recovery of polyester monomers from plastic fractions and the material recycling of mixed textile waste using biotechnological processes. These approaches enable valuable resources to be used efficiently and significantly reduce the environmental impact of waste processing.

Congratulations!
